WATERBURY, VT -- Keurig Green Mountain Inc.'s single-serve, home-brew cold drink machine hits the market today. Keurig Kold allows consumers to make cold sparkling and still beverages, including favorites from Coke and Dr Pepper.
The new Keurig Kold system is available to order at Keurig.com and will be sold by select retailers in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York.
To prepare a drink, the user removes the freshness seal from the bottom of the pod, pops it in and pushes the button. For carbonated beverages, the system uses Karbonator beads, which are contained within the pod and hold beverage-grade CO2. During the drink-making process, CO2 is released into the beverage to carbonate each drink.
The Kold chiller uses an aerospace-inspired thermal transfer system to rapidly cool room temperature water to the ideal chilled temperature. Keurig Kold delivers beverages at an 8-fl.oz. portion size, and nearly all beverages have 100 calories or less.
Kold pods need no refrigeration. Beverage choices include craft and fountain-style sodas, zero- and low-calorie flavored seltzers and waters, sports hydration drinks and iced teas. Cocktail mixers will be released in the near future.
Brands include Coca-Cola Co.'s namesake cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite and Fanta, and Dr Pepper Snapple Group's Dr. Pepper and Canada Dry.
Keurig has created many of its own beverage lines for the cold system, too. They include Seraphine zero-calorie seltzers in Mediterranean fruit flavors like passion and Persian lime; Flyte sports hydration drinks; Waterful zero-calorie, lightly flavored and sweetened waters; and Red Barn Craft Soda made with pure cane sugar. Rounding out Keurig's signature Kold drinks are Flynn's Soda Shop soda fountain classics and Tierney's still, sparkling and diet iced teas.
The Keurig Kold drink machine has a suggested retail price of $369.99. Kold pods retail for $4.49-$4.99 for a 4-ct. box.
