Jurors awarded more than $228 million in damages to several plaintiffs who claimed the Las Vegas-based Real Water product caused an outbreak of liver illnesses that included at least one woman's death, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report.
The jury determined Real Water and two other companies were liable for $28.5 million in compensatory damages and an additional $200 million in punitive damages.
The suit is one of several filed against Real Water and was the first to go to trial.
The company has been subject to investigations by the Food and Drug Administration, which pulled the product in March 2021, and the Southern Nevada Health District.
