England's Jolly Roger (Amusement Rides) Ltd., a division of Photo-Me International, has introduced three concept kiddie rides incorporating a videogame format. And, venturing off its familiar kiddie ride path, the manufacturer now offers an innovative videogame that should attract the attention of both street and family entertainment operators.

Leading off the new releases is the Ezee Swap system, an architecture that accommodates interchangeable rides on a standard platform. This feature allows operators to better match a ride to the location, or simply to refresh the coin-op attraction at minimum cost by replacing only the ride and not the base.

The company initially is offering two options for the Ezee Swap system. Ezee Swap Eco Freddy is a trash truck-themed ride with onboard 22" TFT LCD. The age-appropriate game challenges young children to help sort through different types of recyclable material displayed on the touchscreen interface. The companion Ezee Swap Racing Car features an interactive steering wheel to control racing action pictured on the video screen. Videogames and rides in the Ezee Swap system can be customized for volume purchasers.

A third entry in the Jolly Roger lineup is the Creative Camper Van. While it's not part of the Ezee Swap line, it is still equipped with a 22" touchscreen. It also offers a variety of educational videogames themed to drawing, counting and music. All three rides are constructed of durable, brightly colored fiberglass (referred to as GRP, or glass-fiber reinforced plastic).

Jolly Roger's new projector videogame replaces the conventional screen and controls with an interactive image projected onto the floor; patrons play the game with their feet. The projector is available either in a "phone stand" format styled to resemble an oversized cellphone, or equipped for independent mounting to a wall or ceiling.

Unlike standard screen interfaces, the image projected by Jolly Roger's videogame is easily scaled to cover a few square feet to a substantially larger area. This scalability allows placement in a wide variety of locations. At present, the company is offering eight different sizes. A diverse selection of games is available, including soccer, dance and bipedally adapted versions of pool and racing.
