John Stossel, a commentator who frequently criticizes government initiatives, has slammed the soda tax that Philadelphia lawmakers enacted five years ago, according to a Yahoo News report.
Proponents claimed the funds raised from the tax would support education, but Stossel claims most of the funds went to the city's general fund.
He noted that the city spent $4 million from the funds on an office of arts and culture and "hip-hop dance instruction that teaches youth empowerment."
A 20-ounce soda in a retail store now costs around $3, according to one customer.
Stossel further noted that soda taxes are disproportionately paid by poor people.
