WILDWOOD, NJ -- William H. Morey Sr., a prominent figure in the Jersey Shore amusement community, died on Jan. 13. He was 87.
Morey was a lifelong resident of Wildwood, NJ, and a founder of Morey's Piers, the celebrated amusement center in his hometown. He and his brother Will opened the park in 1969. Today, Morey's Piers, still family owned and operated, offers 100 attractions.
Morey is also known for developing the classic Doo Wop motels that flourished along the Jersey Shore in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the now-defunct Ringo bingo hall.
He is survived by his wife Dolores; sons William (Carolyn) and Thomas; twin daughters Jane and Joan; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations to the Pulmonary Care of the Cape Regional Medical Center will be accepted in memory of William H Morey Sr.
