Japanese vending machine offers edible insects

A vending machine in Miyaki Town in western Japan offers edible insects and insect extract, according to a report in The Thaiger.

The machine offers 12 types of whole insects, including bamboo caterpillars, as well as water beetles and crickets.

The insects are fried and packed in bottles selling for 1,000 yen ($9.13). Each bottle has 20 to 30 insects.

Recent research indicates edible insects offer health benefits.
