Central Japan Railway Company JR Tokai launched a variety of ice cream vending machines at stations serving the Tokaido Shinkansen, the bullet train that runs between Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, according to a SoraNews24 report.
In October of last year, JR Tokai removed cart sales from the bullet train, meaning passengers could no longer purchase drinks and snacks from the carts during their journeys. Mini ice-cream tubs were particularly popular during train rides, so passengers welcomed JR Tokai's announcement of ice cream vending machines, according to the news outlet.
JR Tokai installed these vending machines at all Nozomi stations last year, but most recently installed a Baskin Robbins vending machine at the Tokyo station. Baskin Robbins has designed mini-tubs of ice cream specifically for this machine and sells the flavors most popular in Japan, including Popping Shower.
