IoT coffee machine vulnerable to ransomware

September 28, 2020

IoT connected coffeemakers can be managed remotely, but they are also vulnerable to hacking, according to an engineer who was able to install ransomware in one such machine, according to a decodedavast.io post.

Martin Horn, a reverse engineer, recently installed ransomware in an Internet connected coffee machine, and claims someone with bad intentions could accomplish the same feat, according to the post.

The website shows an image of a coffeemaker with a notice on the digital screen asking, "Want your machine back?" along with a bitcoin wallet address, presumably for the user to send the ransom in bitcoin.
