Engine No. 1, a U.S. activist investment firm, has taken a small stake in the Coca-Cola Co. with plans to move the beverage giant on the waste management front, according to semafor.com, a news site focused on transparency.
The fund wants the beverage giant to get more serious about its goal to recycle more cans and bottles by 2030, according to unnamed sources.
Engine No. 1 has also taken a stake in Republic Services, the waste management firm, and has suggested a partnership between the two companies.
Engine No. 1 has proposed Coca-Cola invest in Republic or pledge to buy more recycled plastic bottles.
