INVERNESS, IL -- John "Jack" Dee, who worked in the vending industry for 42 years, died on April 6. He was 83.
Dee began his career at Armstrong Corp. and went on to work as national sales manager for Litton Microwave Industries, vice-president of sales and marketing for Bally Manufacturing and national sales manager for Lektro Vend.
In 1989, he founded John Dee Ltd., a distributor of refurbished vending machines and a broker of business acquisitions.
Dee attended Downers Grove (IL) North High School, where he achieved all conference, all area and honorable mention all-state in football and set an Illinois record for the highest pole vault in the state in 1953.
He played football at Western Illinois and lettered as a freshman in 1954. He transferred to Iowa State where he lettered in 1956 and graduated with a degree in business from the Department of Industrial Administration in 1958.
He was a Captain Artillery in the United States Army and served at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Dee received military honors at his funeral.
He is survived by wife Nancy Spikings Dee; children David (Katrina) Dee and Susan (JD Dunne) Dee; grandchildren Cameron, Coner, Andrew and William; and brother Richard
