India railway to introduce water vending machines

Western Railway passengers in India will be able to buy water from 53 vending machines at 25 stations, according to an indianexpress.com report.

The contract awarded by auction to M/s Vrindavan Catering Co. for a period of five years marks the first such contract.

Passengers will refill containers for 5 Rs (61 cents) and purchase a bottle for 8 Rs (97 cents) per liter.

The company is required to install the machines within two months at the selected stations.
