India city installs cloth bag machines to reduce plastic use

The city of Pune, India, installed eight vending machines offering cloth bags at various locations on Monday, World Environment Day, according to a punekarnews.in report. The goal is to promote the use of cloth bags and reduce the use of plastic bags.

Individuals can purchase a cloth bag by inserting a 10-rupee (12-cent) coin.

This initiative is also intended to create employment opportunities for women in producing the cloth bags.
