CHICAGO -- A recent investigative report by The Chicago Tribune found that the Illinois Gaming Board issued licenses for video gambling machines to persons with criminal histories or ties to illegal gambling.
The Tribune reported that two individuals who previously operated unlawful machines were approved for licenses; a third was a convicted felon.
The IGB has issued some 7,000 licenses, and denied 400 applicants, since the state's video gaming terminals went online in 2013. To date, there are an estimated 40,000 licensed machines in the state.
