CLARENCE, NY - Innovative Concepts in Entertainment reports that it is shipping Centipede Chaos, a 21st-Century reimagination of the classic Centipede videogame. The original Centipede was designed by Atari and implemented on its 8-bit game consoles and a wide range of home computers, as well as the IBM PC. The arcade version rolled out in 1980.
ICE again teamed up with Play Mechanix to bring a legendary game into the 21st Century. Centipede Chaos is a three-player attraction equipped with a 75-i HD monitor, three LED-illuminated stools that (of course) resemble fantasy mushrooms, and a distinctive attention-getting cabinet design.
Centipede Chaos was previewed at this year's Amusement Expo International and attracted favorable attention. ICE cites a review on the popular Arcade Heroesblog, which commented that "The boss battles are short, but also different for each, which is a nice change of pace. The graphics fit the aesthetic and the power-ups [special-purpose weapons] are fun to use."
Joe Coppola, president of ICE, observed that the designers endeavored to rethink the game as a contemporary family attraction. "This remake resonates with the parents and other adults who fondly remember the original '80s videogame, as well as the kids who are immediately captivated by the awesome 75" video screen and nonstop action of the current style three-player game," he said. "The earnings and success of Centipede Chaos have been immediate and widespread, both domestically and internationally. The depth of this game, combined with its unique 'continue' feature, has created a loyal player base across almost all FEC concepts."
