HOLLYWOOD, FL -- Mayor Peter Bober has passed a mandate requiring that vending machines in all city-owned vending machines here offer non-GMO snack choices.
This decision will impact all 45 city vending machines, which serve thousands of people who work in and visit government offices. The new rule will also require those machines to include healthier offerings that meet recommendations for healthier snack and drink options from the American Heart Association.
It's a growing trend for cities to require that vending machine menus in public facilities meet nutritional guidelines, but it appears that Hollywood is the first to mandate GMO-free selections.
