Hemmerling Elementary School in Banning, California has installed a book vending machine that offers students another way to engage with literacy, according to a Record Gazette report.
Students earn tokens for the vending machine by exhibiting positive behavior and academic achievement. They can redeem these tokens for books from the vending machine.
"We believe that every child deserves access to books and the opportunity to fall in love with reading," Hemmerling Orincipal Dr. Ileana Gutierrez told the news outlet.
"This new initiative not only provides students with the resources they need, but also promotes a culture of learning and growth that extends beyond the classroom."
