Glanbia Performance Nutrition (GPN) said it is fast establishing its brand the vending, micromarket and office coffee service channel with its protein, energy and pre-workout drinks and snacks that are widely distributed and recognized in other retail channels across the globe.
GPN's products are formulated to support the varied goals of active adults, from professional athletes to everyday fitness enthusiasts, and those seeking weight management products. They range from a protein smoothie for a morning meal, to a pre-workout energy drink, a post-workout protein shake or a healthy snack to repair and build muscle or support an active lifestyle.
GPN is a division of Glanbia plc, an Irish global nutrition group with operations in 32 countries. It has leading market positions in sports nutrition, cheese, dairy ingredients, specialty non-dairy ingredients and vitamin and mineral premixes. Glanbia products are sold or distributed in more than 130 countries, with Europe and the U.S. representing its biggest markets.
The company's ABB brand dates back to 1985 and is focused primarily on ready-to-drink protein and pre-workout beverages and its products are available in gyms, specialty stores and major grocery and drug store chains across the U.S.
GPN solidified its presence in the North American market in 2008 by acquiring Illinois-based sports supplement firm Optimum Nutrition, which has a strong presence in the U.S. market for whey-based premium sports supplements. In 2011, it acquired Bio-Engineered Supplements and Nutrition (BSN), a developer and distributor of nutritional products designed for health, training, physique development and performance. Sports nutrition specialist Isopure joined the Glanbia family in 2014, and U.S. protein bar maker thinkThin followed in 2015 and is nationally distributed at major retailers including Whole Foods, Target, Kroger, Trader Joe's and CVS. Most recently, Glanbia acquired Slim Fast to round out its portfolio by addressing a need for weight-management products.
"We are the global leader in performance nutrition and we are seeing great results with vending and micromarket operators," said Rob Mara, who recently joined Glanbia to head up its new foodservice division.
Now available from GPN for vending, micromarkets and office coffee service are several Optimum Nutrition (ON)-branded products. Protein Cake Bites, an "anytime quality protein snack," contain 20g. protein per three-cake pack, available in birthday cake, chocolate-frosted donut, chocolate peanut butter, cookies-and- cream and a variety of other innovative flavors.
Ideal for post-workout and in between meals are Protein Crisps, with a light, crispy texture and 20g. protein and 4g. or less sugar per bar. Flavors include salted toffee pretzel, vanilla marshmallow and peanut butter crunch.
Protein Almonds contain two times the protein of regular coated almonds, with 10g. protein, 230 calories per sleeve and no more than 2g. sugar per sleeve. They're available in dark chocolate truffle, chocolate peanut butter, cookies-and- cream, cinnamon roll, and other flavors.
Protein Wafers were recently added to the portfolio as a snack that provides 15g. protein and only 200 calories. They are available in Chocolate, vanilla, mocha and raspberry flavors. Like all Optimum Nutrition snacks they are low in sugar.
Essential Amin.O. Energy Stick Packs are for people seeking moderate energy support throughout the day and replace other caffeine sources including tea, coffee and soft drinks. Each stick provides 100mg. caffeine and 5g. micronized free-form amino acids for muscle support. Varieties are watermelon, grape, fruit fusion and blue raspberry.
Rounding out the Optimum Nutrition lineup is Essential Amin.O. Energy Sparkling hydration drink, with a combination of caffeine, aminos and electrolytes. It contains 5g. amino acids, 100mg. caffeine from natural sources and zero sugar and comes in blueberry, lemonade, grape, strawberry and watermelon.
Glanbia's Gold Standard 100% Whey Stick Packs, easily mixed into any liquid, provide convenient protein powder on-the-go for consumers who don't have a shaker and tub handy. Each stick provides 24g. protein, predominately from whey isolates, 5g. or more BCAAs and 4g. glutamine, and no more than 1.5g. fat and 3g. carbohydrates. Varieties include double rich chocolate, extreme milk chocolate and vanilla.
Iso Pure 20g. Protein is a water-based drink to help support anytime recovery. It contains 20g. of non-GMO and rBST-free whey protein isolate, with zero sugar, carbs and fat and has 80 calories. It's gluten and lactose free and offered in alpine punch, apple melon and grape.
Cocotein By Isopure is a coconut-infused protein drink to help support hydration and recovery. It contains 20g. non-GMO and rBST-free whey protein isolate with refreshing coconut water to help support hydration. It has 100 calories, zero fat, and is gluten and lactose free and available in coconut, tropical punch and fruit punch.
A.B.B. Pure Pro 50 is a high-protein drink made from milk and whey proteins to help support anytime recovery. With 50g. protein, 2g. fat and 3g. sugar, it's available in milk chocolate, vanilla bean, strawberry and peanut butter chocolate.
Rounding out Glanbia's immediate consumption products for vending, OCS and micromarkets is A.B.B.
