Gastro Obscura vending machine returns to NYC offering Southern cuisine

Gastro Obscura, the food offshoot of travel website Atlas Obscura, will return to New York City next week with a five-day residency for its vending machine in Brooklyn's McCarren Park, featuring products highlighting the culinary diversity of the American South, according to the organization's website.

The Gastro Obscura vending machine will be available to the public at the McCarren Park House on Friday through the following Monday from noon to 6 p.m.

Products available for purchase will include king cake popcorn, fruit punch pickles, soul food truffles and grape preserves from old vines.

An opening celebration with DJ Jonathan Toubin will be held next Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Gastro Obscura built the vending machine last year to celebrate the release of its book, "Gastro Obscura: A Food Adventurer's Guide." The machine debuted last year at New York's Union Square before traveling to Portland and Chicago.
