DENVER -- GameWorks Entertainment LLC has opened a new location here. The 37,000-sq.ft. venue, located at the Shops at Northfield Stapleton retail center, has more than 160 video and redemption games, several private function spaces and a restaurant.
Significantly, this is the first of the company's locations to offer laser tag. The two-level 4,000-sq.ft. arena, which accommodates up to 24 players, is a collaboration between GameWorks and Creative Works, a laser tag attractions designer. The Denver venue is also the third of the company's facilities to feature an e-sports lounge, where guests can compete on popular console games like League of Legends, Call of Duty and Halo. The e-sports lounge will also provide the opportunity for more formal competitions in console gaming.
Founded in 1997 as a joint venture among Sega, Universal Studios and DreamWorks SKG, GameWorks expanded quickly, but eventually floundered. Sega took full ownership in 2004, subsequently selling the operation to a private investment group in 2011. The new owner operates six stores in the U.S. and one in Canada. The latest location in the revitalized site-based entertainment chain is located at 7950 Northfield Blvd. in Denver, CO.
