ONE-SHOT, ONE MILLION TICKETS!Games of Pure Skill's 1-Shot is garnering a good deal of attention with a chance to win 1 million ticket payout at Redondo Beach, CA's Fun Factory. Patrons need to win standard top prize twice in a row. |
In September, Shoemaker programmed his 1-Shot skill game to pay out a million tickets, about $10,000 in cash-equivalent value. The skillful player just had to win the standard top prize of 5,000 tickets, but twice in a row. To date, nobody has won, but the contest has generated a lot of interest on the part of customers and the amusement industry.
"It just seemed as if it would be nice to have the first game in history that gave out a million tickets," Shoemaker said. "And people line up to play it."
Shoemaker, a design and engineering legend in the coin machine industry, created the 1-Shot game four years ago. The compact unit, which takes up just a single square foot of floor space, measures 12" W. x 12" D. x 29" H. One-Shot is unique not only for its small size, but also for its concept. A variation of standard skill crane, 1-Shot challenges players to use a joystick to maneuver then drop its "tri-bob" rounded weight with extended arms into a silo or tube so that it lays flat at the bottom. As with most great redemption games, it is intuitively understood, but requires skillfully applied maneuvering.
One-Shot's small size allows it to be placed as standalone unit on a pedestal or mounted to the side of a larger game. Despite its diminutive size and price tag, Shoemaker reported, the game consistently places as a high-grossing unit.
The 1-Shot is not Shoemaker's first foray into game design. He entered the industry more than a half century ago, first creating the pump mechanism for the iconic Mold-A-Rama machine, coin-op's precursor to 3D printing. He's created several noteworthy games and novelties since the 1960s, and has accumulated 50 patents related to coin-op. While Shoemaker markets most his games and aftermarket products to the industry directly, he also licenses some to other companies.
One-Shot is marketed by Games of Pure Skill, a division Wedges/Ledges of California Inc., which is owned by Shoemaker.
