A company based in Aix-en-Provence, Espace Drive, has developed self-service wine vending machines, called Cave O Vin, designed for potential roadside placement in France, according to a report by The Connexion. The machines dispense wine after customers scan a QR code and provide age verification through a photo ID scan.

The vending machines maintain wine at optimal temperatures, typically 14-degrees Celsius for red wines, with adjustable shelving for chilled white wines. The machines require authorization from local mayors, and their operating hours are subject to local alcohol sale regulations.

"We make distributors for cheese and charcuteries, and were approached by vineyards to see if we could do the same for wines," Stéphany Bonnard of Espace Drive told the news outlet, highlighting the machines' potential to facilitate direct sales for vineyards without the need for on-site staff.
