Flowers Foods names Varnedoe, Thomas to top management roles

Flowers Foods Inc., which owns the Mrs. Freshley's, Tastykake, Nature's Own and other consumer brands, has promoted Heeth Varnedoe to VP/chief operating officer and named Terry Thomas chief growth officer, according to a press release. Both will assume new positions on Sept. 1.

Varnedoe has served as chief operating officer in addition to a number of management roles at Flowers, including chief transformation officer, senior vice president of DSD regions/sales and president of the Phoenix bakery.

Thomas, currently a member of the board of directors, will resign as a member of the board and join the company as chief growth officer, a newly created position, reporting to Ryals McMullian, chairman, chief executive officer and president. Thomas most recently served as global chief customer officer at Unilever and has held executive positions at PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Clorox and Procter & Gamble.
