There's good news for vending and amusement operators. Gas prices are poised to dip below $2 a gallon for the first time in more than six years. According to energy pundits, the average national price at the pump could fall as low as $1.79 a gallon in the coming weeks and months.
The significant decrease, down more than 50¢ from the same time last year, is due to several factors. According to experts, a warmer than average winter in many parts of the country, a worldwide "glut" caused by increased production in OPEC countries and reduced demand have pushed crude oil prices down to $35 a barrel.
In the real world on the road, the savings are noteworthy. Filling up a 20-gal. tank at the pump will soon be about $40, compared with more than $50 a year ago.
