Five Star Food Service acquires Gulf Coast Canteen

Five Star Food Service Inc., a Canteen franchise based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has acquired Mobile, Alabama-based Gulf Coast Canteen for an undisclosed sum, according to a press release.

The acquisition expands Five Star's service territory further into Alabama and marks its entry into Florida, adding branches in Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida.

New Orleans-based Refreshments Solutions will acquire Gulf Coast Canteen's Ocean Springs, Mississippi operation.

Gulf Coast Canteen began as a vending company in 1961 as Central Vending and merged with Mobile Vending in 1999, eventually becoming a Canteen franchise in 2001. Owner Greg Breland took over the family business in 2005.

This acquisition marks Five Star's 19th acquisition and sixth territory expansion in four years.
