Federal authorities have issued a recall of Las Vegas-based Real Water, a bottled water brand, and ordered the company, AffinityLifestyles.com Inc., to provide records in investigations of one death and cases of liver illness among consumers, according to an Associated Press report.

Company attorneys and its president, Brent Jones, did not respond to messages about a Wednesday U.S. District Court order to halt production and distribution when contacted Friday. The product is primarily sold in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.

The brand is marketed as alkalized drinking water in blue bottles with labels saying it is "infused with negative ions" and detoxifying properties.

The federal complaint refers to the brand "Re2al Water Drinking Water," and claims it is treated with chemicals including mineral salt and caustic lye.

The complaint also says the water is drawn from the Las Vegas-area municipal supply and processed with potassium hydroxide, (lye), magnesium chloride, a salt and potassium bicarbonate.
