Drug addicts in rural Kentucky will be able to access harm reduction supplies from vending machines under a National Institutes of Health program to study the success of these machines in helping addicts, according to a report in The Washington Free Beacon.
The machines will offer condoms, hygiene kits, fentanyl strips, injection equipment, naxolone and other supplies.
Drug users will be able to obtain syringes without interacting with anyone to remove the stigma that can occur when visiting an in-person facility.
The $3.6 million project will be studied by the University of Kentucky, the first federal effort to deploy harm-reduction vending machines.
