Farmer's Fridge, a company known for its prepared meals sold in vending machines, is expanding its reach in Texas, according to a My San Antonio report. The company, founded in Chicago, has machines in 235 locations across the state, including Austin, San Antonio, and at UT Austin.
"I spent my life saving son a vending machine and I had no idea if anybody was actually going to show up and buy anything, because the idea of buying lunch from a vending machine…for $8 was just not done at the time," Farmer's Fridge CEO Luke Saunders told the news outlet. "The bar is so high here [in Chicago] and so it was kind of good I couldn't sleep because I just spent all that time making sure the food was great."
Farmer's Fridge says freshness is a priority, with meals prepared daily in Chicago and delivered within 24 hours. The company sees opportunity for growth in rural areas, with CEO Luke Saunders specifically mentioning bringing Farmer's Fridge vending machines to Dollar Stores and Walmarts. Farmer's Fridge is offering a free meal to new app users and will soon launch a peach caprese item exclusively at Costco.
