CAV Solution, based in Estonia, has introduced an age verification module for vending machines, according to a press release.

"What's most important — the solution does not allow sales of age restricted products to minors! It is a huge problem worldwide that children have a chance to purchase health harming products," Juri Tarassenkov, CAV Solutions' CCO, said in the release.

Possibilities of the module are not limited only to age verification; it can be used as identity verification device for KYC (know your customer) compliance.

The module attaches to the vending machine and consists of a camera and a document tray.

Verification consists of two steps — the customer looks into the camera and puts the document in to the document tray. The system, using artificial intelligence, determines the customer's age and informs the verification was successful or not on the module screen.

The technology is based on computer vision and neural networks, which enables detection and recognition of faces, gender and age.
