DALLAS -- The payment systems unit of the Helix Leisure group said it has completed a major installation. Embed's Smart-Touch card readers are now running on amusement machines in all 77 Dave & Buster's locations in the U.S. and Canada.
Embed chief operating officer Luke McKimmie said the company worked closely with Dave & Buster's to support the migration process, which was mostly handled by the arcade chain's own technical teams. "With such ambitious rollout targets, it was quite an achievement for both companies, considering it needed to be accomplished without interruption to the stores' normal operations," McKimmie said.
The new Smart-Card is Embed's next-generation amusement payment system, which can activate games by either insertion or a proximity tap. Embed customized its technology for Dave & Buster's, which continues to brand its payment medium as the Power Card. Surveys indicated greater customer satisfaction in Dave & Buster's arcade midway following the upgrades, according to Embed.
Other companies under the Helix Leisure umbrella include LAI Games, a maker of amusement machines and kiddie rides; LAI Engineering, the design division of the group's manufacturing business; and the Locker Network, which markets an automated alternative to old-fashioned keyed locker banks that require an attendant.
