ORRVILLE -- J.M. Smucker Co. began selling Dunkin' Donuts K-Cups in the first quarter, ended July 31, which helped drive strong financial results. The company attributed a 12% sales spike in its coffee business, compared with a year ago, to the addition of the new capsules.

Smucker's overall profit grew 18% to $136.4 million from $116 million a year earlier. Total revenue climbed 47% to $1.95 billion.

Smucker said its $3 billion acquisition of Big Heart Pet Brands in March added $561.3 million in revenue during the quarter.
