ANCHORAGE, AK -- A story published on Jan. 7 by the Alaska Dispatch News reported that Dave & Buster's might be opening its first location in Alaska. The article by Annie Zak did not say where the first store would be sited, but suggests it would most likely be in an Anchorage shopping center. | SEE STORY
Dave & Buster's, which has 79 locations in the Lower 48 and Hawaii, usually targets markets with populations (within 10 miles) of 700,000 to one million people. Anchorage has a population of 301,000, according to the latest census figures. But Zak's story points out that the restaurant and amusement machine chain has several stores in smaller U.S. cities, and has announced aggressive expansion plans.
Dallas-based Dave & Buster's, which retained a lobbyist in Alaska, will need to deal with a few food and alcohol regulations before it can open a store. The chain has encountered food and alcohol challenges in other states, most recently in New Jersey, where a 56-year-old ban on serving alcohol in amusement venues had to be repealed to allow it to open there. | SEE STORY
