Delaware Gov. John Carney has signed a ban on polystyrene (known as Styrofoam) containers in restaurants, making Delaware the 11th state to enact the ban, according to a Yahoo News report.

The bill, which prohibits food establishments from giving customers ready-to-eat food or beverages in polystyrene foam containers, passed the Senate in April.

Senate Bill 51 also prohibits single-use sandwich picks, plastic drink stirrers and cocktail picks.

Plastic straws will be permitted if requested by customers.

The measure takes effect July 1, 2025.
