WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Dec. 1 deadline for calorie disclosure compliance for vending machines has arrived. With the rule now in effect, operators of 20 or more vending machines must display calorie information, at the point of sale, for snacks, food, and cold and hot drinks sold through those machines. Machines selling bulk confections are also required to post calorie information. Operators of fewer than 20 machines are exempt from the regulation.
The rule requires that calories can be displayed on a product's package front, a sign in/on or adjacent to the vending machine or electronic display.
The National Automatic Merchandising created an FAQ document to help operators understand how to comply with the rules. Click here to view it. Go here to read Vending Times' most recent coverage on complying with the calorie rules.
