DALLAS -- Dave & Buster's has gone Trekkie in anticipation of the excitement surrounding Star Trek's 50th anniversary. The sci-fi TV series debuted on NBC on Sept. 8 in 1966. Dave & Buster's proprietary Star Trek game was developed by Belgium's Elaut NV; it is similar to Elaut's popular Wizard of Oz pusher and awards collectible Star Trek cards as prizes.
Available through October, the eight-card series, which features lenticular images, depicts images from the classic 1960s program: the starship Enterprise NCC-1701, Capt. Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Sulu, along with a Tribbles rare card that pays homage to the "The Trouble With Tribbles" episode (1967), are among them. Each card is available in a limited-edition, foil-enhanced version that can be redeemed for larger prizes.
"Dave & Buster's is known for bringing its guests the best in arcade entertainment, and we are so proud to add to the Star Trek legacy with such an exciting new game," said chief marketing officer Sean Gleason. "Fans of the legendary franchise will now have another way to celebrate their inner 'Trekkie' with a game that is as fun and eye-catching as the series and movies."
This is not the first time the big box entertainment and restaurant chain has offered a proprietary game. Dave & Buster's venues offered an Angry Birds game based on the hit mobile app series from Rovoi. In that instance, the game was developed by Innovative Concepts in Entertainment and Play Mechanix Inc.
