Danone, a Paris-based global provider of dairy and plant-based products, waters and nutrition, has launched a combined heat and power facility and microgrid controller for its Boksburg, South Africa facility to support the company's global commitment to net zero by 2050, according to a press release.
Danone's dairy product manufacturing facility in Boksburg, South Africa produces a variety of dairy products like Nutriday yogurt and Ultramel custard.
The gas-fired power generation brings carbon reduction when compared to grid coal-fired power, or diesel generation.
Moshesh, an independent power provider, will own and operate the plant for a period of 20 years under a contract with Danone.
Combining the benefits of energy efficient combined heat and power technology with renewable solar power and emergency backup generation will enable the delivery of business continuity through energy resilience and cleaner power to the operating facility in the event of local grid failures.
