BROOKLYN, NY -- The Brooklyn Museum has a new art exhibit that pays tribute to the storied New York City neighborhood best known for its seaside amusement park.
Called "Coney Island Is Still Dreamland (To A Seagull)," the exhibit features a variety of Coney Island-eque signs intended to be viewed either as a traditional art exhibit or through classic "tower viewer" binoculars set on free play.
The site-specific installation by artist Stephen Powers recalls the birth of new public art in Coney Island, and the emergence of a uniquely American and wholly "Coney Island" style of painting. The colorful work of Powers and other artists will be on display in the Brooklyn Museum's 5th floor gallery through Aug. 21.
The Brooklyn Museum is located at 200 Eastern Pkwy. For additional information, call the museum at (718) 638-5000.
