The artists of the Mancos Creative District in Mancos, Colorado, have refurbished snack vending machines to sell works of art in the machines and have already sold more than $400 worth of art in one month, according to a report in The Durango Herald. The proceeds have been used to compensate the artists.
The machines are at Fahrenheit Coffee & Roasters and Fencelkne Cidery, and so far offer jewelry, stockers, prints and greeting cards.
There are now more than 24 artists providing art work for the machines. The project has caused some artists to create things that can fit in the machine and not be damaged in the process of being dispensed.
