ColdSnap countertop machine serves frozen confections, beverages

Sigma Phase Corp., a Billerica, Massachusetts-based company, has introduced its ColdsSnap countertop, rapid freezing appliance that produces single servings of frozen confections and frozen beverages in less than two minutes, according to the company's website.

The ColdSnap machine accepts ColdSnap pods, then freezes and dispenses the pods' contents. No preparation of the pods is required and no cleanup of the machine is necessary.

ColdSnap is capable of making single-servings of:

• Ice cream.
• Frozen yogurt.
• Frozen coffees.
• Frozen smoothies.
• Frozen healthy shakes.
• Frozen cocktails.
• Slushies.

The initial offering will include single-servings of ice cream in various flavors. Other food and beverage categories will be introduced.

The pods are shelf-stable and can be shipped at ambient temperature. As a result, the system is independent of the "cold chain" that is required to bring factory-frozen ice cream and other frozen products to market.
