Coca-Cola has implemented a packaging change to its 20-ounce bottles across its trademark products, including Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coke Zero, adding the text "Recycle Me Again," according to an IDR report. This initiative, the first packaging alteration since 2021, aims to reduce new plastic use by encouraging consumers to recycle. The company states this change will eliminate approximately 80 million pounds of new plastic, equivalent to roughly 2 billion bottles, aligning with its "World Without Waste" strategy.
The company has faced scrutiny regarding its environmental practices, including concerns about plastic waste and the energy consumption of its AI-generated advertising. While Coca-Cola has pledged to increase reusable packaging, reports indicate a potential revision of its 2030 goals. However, the company is also investing in solar energy upgrades at its bottling plants in India and the United Arab Emirates.
