Coca-Cola is considering the sale of Costa Coffee, the British coffee chain it acquired in 2018 for approximately $5.03 billion, according to a Sky News report.

The soft drink company is reportedly working with bankers to explore a sale and has already held preliminary talks with potential buyers, including private equity firms. Analysts suggest a sale could result in a significant loss for Coca-Cola, with some estimating the chain's current value at around $2.68 billion. Despite a recent increase in revenue, Costa's financial performance has been lackluster, with its 2023 revenues of $1.64 billion still below the $1.74 billion it recorded in 2018.

On a recent earnings call, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey commented on the company's strategy, stating, "We're in the mode of reflecting on what we've learned, thinking about how we might want to find new avenues to grow in the coffee category while continuing to run the Costa business successfully."
