Cliff Whitehead will retire from his longtime role as vice president of sales for the vending channel at Flowers Foods, effective July 24, the company announced.

Whitehead has been involved in building Flowers' cake vending business since 1989 and was part of the team that introduced the Mrs. Freshley's brand into the vending channel nationwide in 1994.

Since joining the sales team of Flowers' Baton Rouge, Louisiana bakery in 1982, Whitehead held a number of sales and marketing positions, including director of marketing for Jack's Cookie Co., a subsidiary since divested, and brand manager within Flowers' marketing team. Following his work in forming the company's vending business, he briefly joined Flowers' foodservice team before returning to take leadership of the vending channel in 2002.

He has held leadership roles in the industry, serving on the National Automatic Merchandising Association board of directors and on the Georgia Automatic Merchandising Association board of governors.
