Stephen Donnelly, Ireland's minister for health, has begun the process to ban the sale of all tobacco products from vending machines, which is due to come into effect in September 2025, according to an RTE News report.
"On World No Tobacco Day, I am bringing into operation further elements of our overall tobacco control strategy," Donnelly told the news outlet. "We are continuing to denormalise the sale of tobacco products to make it clear that a product that kills one out of every two of its users is not like other consumer products."
Donnelly added, "We are also banning the sale of nicotine inhaling products by self-service to further tighten the availability and the advertising of these products."
The Department of Health in Ireland told the news outlet that the ban was recommended by Tobacco Free Ireland.
