Students at McKinley Elementary School in the Central Unified School District, in Fresno, California, are responding positively to the school's book vending machine, according to an ABC 30 report.
The machine, which was recently installed, rewards students with free books for reading and performing well on Accelerated Reading tests.
"I like reading because I like imagining stuff, and it makes me really smart," third-grade student Charlotte Wood told the news outlet. "I don't know how many books I've read, but I think it might be a lot."
Principal Dr. Marilu Cano said the idea for the book vending machine came from a teacher who suggested it to librarian Paula Felisiano. With the help of the Central Unified Foundation, the school was able to purchase the machine and stock it with books.
