SAN FRANCISCO -- Cargo has formed an exclusive global partnership with Uber. The pact comes as Cargo expands operations to San Francisco and Los Angeles, bringing riders snacks, beverages, electronics and beauty products while en route to their destinations.

Uber passengers can order products (some free and some for purchase as part of brand marketing and sampling partnerships) on Cargo's website from their smartphones.

Rideshare drivers turn to Cargo as a way to provide a premium in-car experience to passengers while adding new earnings opportunities through the commissions, referrals and performance bonuses they can receive from Cargo.

Uber drivers can register with Cargo and pick up a box at select driver onboarding and support centers, known as Uber Greenlight Hubs, in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Cargo launched in June 2017, and since then, 7,000 drivers have already reportedly earned more than one million dollars distributing over a million products to passengers in New York City, Boston, Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Washington, DC, Baltimore, Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth.

"Because of companies like Uber, people spend more passenger-time in cars than ever before," said Cargo founder and chief executive Jeff Cripe. "This opened the door for Cargo to create an unparalleled level of convenience for a generation of people on the move, and our partnership with Uber will play an important role in making that vision reality."

"It's always a pleasant surprise when you're using Uber and the driver offers you a bottle of water or a piece of gum, but up to this point these perks have usually been on the driver's dime," added Uber business development lead Keith Hensley. "Cargo took note of this and created an innovative model that aims to bring new value to riders and drivers. We're looking forward to working with Cargo to develop and scale in a way that makes the most sense for our customers."
