Canteen, operated by Compass Group USA, has reached a $6.94 million class action settlement to resolve claims that some of its vending machines overcharged customers who paid with a debit or credit card. The lawsuit alleged that customers were charged more than the displayed price for items without being informed of an additional fee for card use. Canteen has not admitted to any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to resolve the allegations, according to a Top Class Actions report.
The settlement applies to consumers who used a debit, credit or prepaid card to make a purchase from a qualifying Canteen vending machine between 2014 and July 9, 2025, and were charged more than the listed price. Vending machines in numerous states, including Alabama, California, Florida, New York and Texas, are included in the settlement.
Depending on the number of claims, eligible class members may receive between $30 and $360. A claim form must be submitted by Nov. 14, 2025, and a final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2026.
