California library offers book, DVD vending machine

Patrons at the Rancho Cucamonga Public Library can check out and return books and DVDs 24/7 at a vending machine, according to a californianewstimes.com report.

To check out a book, patrons swipe their library card on the machine, enter the book number onto the keypad and the mechanical arm places it on a conveyor belt in an elevator and dispenses it.

The machine cost $160,000 machine and holds 340 items.

About 20 people use the machine every week.
