California cracks down on catalytic converter theft

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed a bill to prevent catalytic converter theft, according to a yourcentralvalley.com report.

AB 1519 makes it illegal to remove a VIN mark on a catalytic converter. It also makes it illegal to have three or more catalytic converters with VIN marks removed.

The National Automatic Merchandising Association has supported such measures, and recently reported in its weekly legislative roundup that 20 states have supported 25 NAMA backed laws to address catalytic converter theft.
