California calls on Nestle Waters to reduce spring water intake

California regulators issued a cease and desist order on Friday to Nestle Waters, now operating under the name Blue Triton Brands, to reduce its take of Southern California spring water used for its Arrowhead brand, according to a courthousemews.com report. Investigators claim the company exceeds its limit by millions of gallons of water annually.

The conflict began in 2015 when Story of Stuff Project, an activist organization, complained to state officials that the company was taking excess water from a Santa Ana River tributary and was operating with expired permits.

The company has claimed the diversions are within its water rights dating back to 1865.
