BROOKLYN, NY -- Brooklyn has a new laundromat, pinball emporium and art gallery under one roof. The renovated Sunshine Laundromat is a fusion of 23 pinball machines, a photobooth and other coin-op classics, and commercial washers and dryers.
Located at 860 Manhattan Ave. in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, the location was recently the subject of a New York Times feature that celebrated the eclectic mix of coin-operated devices.
While coin-op entertainment has long been a profitable staple for public laundry locations, the Sunshine Laundromat seems to have programmed its selection for the area's hipster clientele by adding art into the mix. The games reside in a 1,000-sq.ft. partition area.
Skeptics of the concept would do well to remember that the now highly popular barcade model featuring classic videogames began in 2004 less than two miles away.
