KENT, UK -- Dr. Alan F. Meades, a senior lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University here, has started The Arcade Tales Project. Meades is hoping to collect stories about arcades and the coin-op industry from operators, players, manufacturers and distributors. The project is administered on Facebook with an accompanying online comic book.
A lifelong fan of arcades and coin-op games, Meades came to public attention when he discovered the ultra-rare Ken Sei Mogura coin-op game in the formerly abandoned Dreamland amusement park in Margate, Kent. Meade restored the game, a hybrid of Capcom's Street Fighter 2 arcade video and a Whac-a-Mole mallet game, in time for the reopening of the historic amusement park this past summer. | SEE STORY
If successful, The Arcade Tales Project will help preserve more coin-op history before it is forgotten. The Facebook page is open and anyone can contribute.
